The results of 66 Schlumberger geoelectric soundings on first-year sea ice are analysed to obtain average values of d.c. electrical resistivity both parallel PI and perpendicular Pp to the long brine cell direction. This analysis yields PI = 104 \u3a9 m, 80 n m, 45 \u3a9 m, and Pp = 2g8 \u3a9 m, 230 \u3a9 m, 129 \u3a9 m for brine volumes Vb of 40%\uba/\u2080\u2080' 67%\uba/\u2080\u2080' and 82%\uba/\u2080\u2080' respectively. The observed dependence of pI o n Vb is used in conjunction with a mixing formula for the electrical resistivity of a two-phase heterogeneous system to arrive at values of "average" brine cell lengths l for relatively warm sea ice.
