Filogeografia e demografia histórica de saguinus bicolor

The origin of Amazonian high species diversity is still not fully understood although two main kinds of mechanisms related to landscape evolution have gained considerable support over the years: geological history of the basin and historical climate change. Much less discussed is the role of species interactions in speciation events. In this study, we evaluate the role of different historical mechanisms as drivers of diversification in Saguinus of the midas group in Eastern Amazon. We obtained sequences of mitochondrial markers for individuals of all four taxa, reconstructed their phylogenetic history and estimated divergence times. In addition, we investigated intraspecific population structure and demographic history of two of the taxa, Saguinus midas and Saguinus bicolor based on a large intraspecific sampling. Our recovered phylogenetic relationships corroborate previous studies. Dating, population structure and demographic analysis suggest that both landscape history and species interactions were important for the diversification of the midas clade. The diversification scenario reconstructed here, based on sound phylogenetic and temporal estimates, is a strong evidence of species interactions acting in conjunction with Earth‟s history to shape diversification patterns in this Amazonian primates clade. S. bicolor, despite its restricted distribution, includes two divergent mtDNA lineages that should be considered when planning conservation actions.Saguinus bicolor, popularmente conhecido como Sauim-de-coleira, apresenta uma das menores distribuições entre os primatas amazônicos, e está listado atualmente como ameaçado de extinção, apesar disso, até o momento, existe somente um estudo de genética de população a seu respeito, porém, focado nos fragmentos urbanos. Aqui analisamos o padrão filogeográfico, a diversidade genética e a história demográfica da espécie utilizando sequências a partir da região controle do DNA mitocondrial, citocromo b e citocromo oxidase 1. O DNA mitocondrial de S. bicolor apresenta diversidade genética moderada e nenhum indício claro de estruturação geográfica. Além disso, a análise de variação temporal no tamanho populacional demonstra expansão populacional há cerca de 25 mil anos. Entretanto, os métodos coalescentes identificaram tamanho efetivo e taxa de crescimento moderada quando comparado com seu congênere S. midas. A análise filogenética mostra que S. bicolor é uma espécie jovem, com surgimento a cerca de um milhão de anos atrás, durante o Pleistoceno. Um período caracterizado pelas mudanças climáticas e o termino da formação da bacia hidrográfica amazônica. Em comparação, Saguinus midas apresenta taxa de crescimento populacional três vezes maior do que a observada em S. bicolor, além de apresentar variação temporal no tamanho efetivo das populações mais antiga. Além do mais, identificamos sinal de hibridização entre as duas espécies no contato da distribuição. Portanto, nossos resultados indicam que após o Último Máximo Glacial S. bicolor apresentou expansão populacional seguida de uma recente redução do tamanho populacional, provavelmente mediada por ações antrópicas
