The systems approach is a particular way of thinking about a topic or problem that concentrates on interrelationships. lt is characterised by the holistic view that the whole is more than the sum of the parts, as opposed to the elemantarist view that the total is the sum of the parts. The systems approach is not an attempt to understand everything about a system, rather it tries to include all factors relevant to the topic or problem under consideration.
