Im Jenseits des Alltagslebens in institutionellen Ethnografien: methodologische Herausforderungen und ethische Dilemmata

Institutional ethnography (IE) is a method of social inquiry that sets out to explore and analyze how people's daily activities are "hooked up" into institutional arrangements and ruling relations. Using the everyday life of people and their experiences as points of departure, the overall goal is to trace how these experiences are linked to translocal processes. When engaged in empirical inquiries, most IE researchers achieve this goal by moving beyond everyday "levels" of experience into various institutional settings. This article illuminates and critically analyzes the possible pitfalls of moving between various sites of empirical investigation. The article uses comparisons of two studies conducted in similar research settings and both concerning rehabilitation processes to describe two possible ways of conducting this kind of research. Utilizando la vida cotidiana de las personas y sus experiencias como puntos de partida, el objetivo general es indagar cómo estas experiencias están vinculadas con procesos translocales. Cuando se involucran en investigaciones empíricas, la mayoría de los investigadores de EI logra este objetivo desplazándose más allá de los "niveles" cotidianos de experiencia en diversos marcos institucionales. Este artículo clarifica y analiza críticamente las posibles dificultades de desplazarse entre varios sitios de investigación empírica. Se vale de la comparación entre dos estudios llevados a cabo en entornos similares de investigación, ambos relativos a procesos de rehabilitación, para describir dos maneras posibles de desarrollar este tipo de investigación. Hierzu verlassen Forschende das Feld alltäglicher Erfahrungen und suchen unterschiedliche institutionelle Settings auf. In diesem Beitrag befassen wir uns kritisch mit möglichen Fallstricken, die mit dem Wechseln der institutionellen Kontexte verbunden sein können. Wir nutzen hierzu zwei Studien zu Rehabilitationsprozessen, die in ähnlichen Settings durchgeführt wurden, um an ihnen verschiedene Wege der empirischen Forschung mittels IE zu veranschaulichen.
