Dementia is a continuous, permanent deterioration in mental functions manifested by deficit in memory and cognitive abilities. These factors escalate the situation of dementia patients to hazardous incidences of infections and injuries. The aim of this thesis is to assess and incorporate researched information about the risk factors that bind dementia patients to the most common infections and injuries found on long term. The purpose of this thesis is to have an insight on the mechanisms causing the decline in dementia patients and to recognize areas which can be acted upon during the care to prevent recurrently occurring infections and injuries in dementia patients.
