In this study, the effects of renewable NExBTL diesel on engine performance were compared with standard diesel and 50-50 % mix of NExBTL and DFO. The target was to determine if it would be possible to reduce the fuel consumption of the engine with two research fuels by optimizing fuel injection parameters and the use of exhaust gas recirculation, while maintaining nitrous oxide emission levels achieved with diesel. Two different rates of EGR settings were used, and in addition fuel injection parameters were optimized with lower EGR valve settings to bring NOX to the reference level.
