Der erste Abschnitt der Arbeit behandelt die pharmazeutische und ökologische Bedeutung der Weiden (Salix L., Salicaceae) und der Proanthocyanidine. Außerdem wurden die für Salix Spezies relevanten phenolischen Stoffgruppen herausgearbeitet. Weiter wurden die in dieser Arbeit behandelten Spezies vorgestellt (S. pentandra, S. fragilis, S. alba, S. caprea, S. cinerea, S. caprea x cinerea, S. dasyclados, S. elaeagnos, S. daphnoides, S. repens, S. purpurea) und ein beispielhafter Überblick über die jeweils bestehende Literatur gegeben. Im zweiten Abschnitt wird die Isolierung oligomerer Procyanidine aus S. daphnoides vorgestellt. In diesem Rahmen konnten elf Procyanidine gewonnen und deren Strukturen bewiesen werden.
