Self-determination is an intrinsic need of all human beings. Its importance is universal across different cultures, though the ways of satisfying it may vary. In the past two decades, the construct of self-determination, particularly the theory development, assessment instrument, and instructional model aspects, has developed remarkably in the international intellectual disability (ID) field.
