Dissertação de mestrado em Biofísica e BionanossistemasRecent numbers regarding cancer epidemics reveal that every year, 12.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer and 7.6 million die from the disease. Also, it is predicted that cancer related deaths will increase up to 80% by 2030. These numbers are worrying, which motivates an urgent need to develop new anti-cancer therapies. We propose to use low dose Ultra Violet (UV) illumination as a photonic anti-cancer therapy, taking advantage of the interaction between UV light and certain proteins.
