This article provides a description of the current status of guidance and counseling in secondary schools in HongKong, and identifies some of the strengths and weaknesses in existing provisions. Brief attention is given to the wayin which services and programs evolved and factors that have influenced their development. Particular attention isgiven to the concept of the “whole-school approach to guidance,” and to the more recent “comprehensive guidanceand counseling programs” in schools. Future directions in school counseling in Hong Kong are also considered
