A project has been initiated to obtain objective-prism redshifts for large numbers of faint galaxies in several fields around the South Galactic Pole. Measurements are made with the COSMOS machine on deep photographs taken with the UK 1.2 m Schmidt Telescope. Preliminary results from one particular field of the southern sky are presented together with an assessment of the usefulness of the redshifts obtained for this type of analysis
