Since there is an urgent need for development of vaccines and antiviral agents to combat influenza pandemics, this study aimed to develop influenza virus-like particles (VLPs) and aptamers targeting the virus particles as vaccine and antiviral agent candidates. Influenza VLPs containing three structural proteins of hemagglutinin (HA), neuraminidase (NA) and matrix 1 (M1) derived from influenza A/Hong Kong/01/2009 (H1N1) virus (HK/01) were constructed using a Bac-to-Bac baculovirus expression system.
