Vanhempien kokemukset yhteistyöstä toimintaterapeutin kanssa

The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of parents, whose child was in occupational therapy, on cooperation with the occupational therapist. The research questions were used to gain information on how the parents experienced cooperation with the occupational therapist, what were the contents of cooperation, and how this cooperation could be developed according to the parents. The research took place in the area of Lahti through three different work communities. A form of postal questionnaire was used as a research method. The whole sample of the research was 35 questionnaire forms, of which 21 forms were returned. The reply percentage was 60 %. The research included features of both quantitative and qualitative research. These two research methods complemented each other, so that more appropriate information was gained from the research questions. The questionnaire form included 20 multiple choice questions and five open questions. The results showed that the parents felt that cooperation with the occupational therapist worked well. Especially positive feedback was given to the manner of interaction of the occupational therapists, which was said to be positive, honest and straightforward. The parents were also satisfied with the fact that they had common objectives with the occupational therapist on the child’s therapy. Cooperation between the parents and the occupational therapist occurred mainly in discussions in connection with the child’s therapy appointments. The parents had felt this to be the best way of being in cooperation with the therapist. Other forms of cooperation were through the telephone and a message notebook. There was variation among the parents regarding the amount of cooperation. Some parents wanted closer cooperation than others. The parents wished there was more time to discuss the child’s situation without hurry. The parents also hoped for more instructions and ideas for their everyday life. In addition, parents wished for more cooperation with day care and school on matters concerning their child.Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää toimintaterapiassa käyvien lasten vanhempien kokemuksia yhteistyöstä toimintaterapeutin kanssa. Tutkimuskysymysten avulla haluttiin saada tietoa siitä, kuinka vanhemmat kokivat yhteistyön toimintaterapeutin kanssa, minkälaista yhteistyö oli sisällöltään ja miten yhteistyötä voisi vanhempien mielestä kehittää. Tutkimus toteutui Lahden alueella kolmen eri työyhteisön välityksellä. Tutkimusmetodina käytettiin eräänlaista postikyselyn muotoa. Tutkimuksen otoksen koko oli 35 kyselylomaketta, joista 21 lomaketta palautui takaisin. Vastausprosentiksi muodostui 60. Tutkimus sisälsi sekä kvantitatiivisen että kvalitatiivisen tutkimuksen piirteitä. Nämä kaksi tutkimusmenetelmää täydensivät toisiaan, jolloin tutkimuskysymyksistä saatiin tarkoituksenmukaista tietoa. Kyselylomake sisälsi 20 monivalintakysymystä ja viisi avointa kysymystä. Tutkimustulokset osoittivat, että vanhemmat kokivat yhteistyön toimintaterapeutin kanssa sujuvaksi. Erityisesti kiitosta sai toimintaterapeuttien vuorovaikutuksen tyyli, joka mainittiin positiiviseksi, rehelliseksi ja suoraksi. Vanhemmat olivat tyytyväisiä myös siihen, että heillä oli toimintaterapeutin kanssa yhteiset tavoitteet lapsen terapian suhteen. Yhteistyö vanhempien ja toimintaterapeutin välillä tapahtui pääasiassa keskustellen lapsen terapiakertojen yhteydessä. Tämä oli koettu vanhempien keskuudessa parhaimmaksi tavaksi olla yhteistyössä. Yhteistyössä oltiin myös puhelimen ja reissuvihkon välityksellä. Yhteistyön määrän suhteen oli havaittavissa vaihtelua vanhempien välillä. Jotkut vanhemmat tahtoivat olla tiiviimmin yhteistyössä kuin toiset. Vanhemmat toivoivat yhteistyöhön lisää kiireetöntä aikaa, jolloin lapsen asioista voisi rauhassa keskustella. Vanhemmat toivoivat myös enemmän ohjeita ja ideoita arkeen. Lisäksi toimintaterapeutin toivottiin olevan enemmän yhteistyössä päiväkodin ja koulun kanssa lapsen asioissa
