This article examines the objectives, planning principles, and characteristics of satellite town development in China. It also evaluates the development of satellite towns and examines some of their problems of development. Compared with other countries, satellite towns in China may have better chances of fulfilling their development objectives. Because of state allocation of industries, they do not face the problem in attracting industries which often hinders the development of satellite towns and new towns in other countries.
