Quartz grains from volcanic deposits younger than 2000 years were dated by the thermoluminescence (TL) method. The equivalent doses were determined with modified pre-dose technique using 110°C TL peak. TL ages of quartz heated after crystallization are in agreement with historical records and C-14 age of burnt tree. Age reversing is observed for the crystallized quartz with and without heating. This was explained with an initial dose due to the distribution of hole charges. © 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
