The article discusses moral and ethical aspects of cinematography in the modern nation-state of China. Chinese films that depict atrocities during China's Cultural Revolution and influence the collective memory are discussed. The digital-video documentary's role in modernity as a moral authority that exposes oppression and death is also discussed.
