Lipocalin-2 is a pro-inflammatory adipokine. Its circulating concentration positively associates with adiposity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. Lipocalin-2 deficiency protects mice from developing ageing- and obesity-induced insulin resistance.
