Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most deadly cancers worldwide. Surgical resections have been considered the most effective curative treatment for the disease, but the prognosis for patients after hepatic resection has remained unsatisfactory because of an extremely high recurrence rate.
