Elementary particles are marvelous bits of matter out of which the whole universe is made, including us; each one exhibits everywhere the same properties, whether in the laboratory or in distant galaxies. We know that there are a number of different kinds of these elementary bits of matter interacting and transforming into one another under the influence of electromagnetism and of least two other kinds of forces, which we call hadrons, and the others, for example, the leptons, have no strong force but participate in the weak and electromagnetic interactions
