This study extended previous research on the effect of employer-provided training and development on employee wages and promotions. Also investigated were differences in the amount or kinds of workplace education provided male and female employees. The study went beyond previous research to examine the effect of missed opportunities , defined as nonparticipation in employer-provided training either because the employee was not allowed to participate or because the employee chose not to participate.
