Previous research has estimated the capacity of wireless networks by assuming that each node in the network can obtain precise network information. However, in reality, available network information is mostly imprecise and incomplete. In this paper, we study the relationship between the information obtained by each node and the capacity of the wireless network. We also consider the communication overhead of collecting network information, and analyze the tradeoff between the network capacity improvement and the network information collection overhead. The analysis in this paper can be a valuable tool on determining information collection parameters in wireless networks. © 2008 IEEE.published_or_final_versio
