The First Influence of Kafka on Japanese Literature : Before and After the Second World War

In 1932, he wrote the essay Franz Kafka - the class system of loneliness, in which he argued that the solitude and despair of helpless people are expressed in The Metamorphosis. In 1940, Koichi Motono translated Kafka\u27s novel The Trial from German into Japanese. He felt that Kafka described the anxiety and the loneliness of human beings in this novel. Atsushi Nakajima is the first Japanese writer who was influenced by Kafka\u27s literature. During 1934 und 1936 he read the translation of Kafka\u27s The Great Wall of China and Other Pieces. These novels had a huge effect on Nakajima. His story Sangetsu-ki, in which the hero Ri Cho metamorphoses into a tiger, can be compared with Kafka\u27s The Metamorphosis
