Citizenship Education was introduced into the secondary curriculum in England in 2002. It has the three strands (social and moral responsibility, community involvement and political literacy). The aim was the promotion of active citizenship. This means becoming a citizen that can participate in political action and it was influenced by the Crick Committee report. Citizenship Education was changed after the London Bombing in 2005. The Ajegbo Review recommended adding a new strand, ‘Identity and Diversity\u27 to Citizenship Education.
