Double-croping system on paddy-field may be defined as the system of land utilization of paddy-field which contains both summer and winter crops of various kinds and consisted of a succeeding alternation of two different types of land use, i. e., irrigated and dryland, within a year. The land utilization of Japan, especially the utilization of paddy-field in the middle and south-western part of her territory, has long been characterized by this intensive type of use.
