Relationship and Linkage between Urban and Rural Areas in Asia

The current trends of the rapid growth of cities and the declination of rural villages in Asia have caused the difference between urban and rural areas and the unbalanced regional development. Following the UN-Habitat campaign \u22Cities -engines for rural development\u22 to promote the positive urban-rural linkage, this study aims to realize the relationship between urban and rural areas in a region from the physical, environmental, social and economical aspects by the arrangement of the document database and analysis on statistic data on Asian countries, and to clarify the existing condition of urban-rural relationship in each of countries. As conclusion, we figure out the locality of the relationship, and suggest the point of view for promoting the urban-rural linkage policies and pragmatic program based on the locality in Asian countries
