ESPAD 2000

Espad 2000 The ESPAD project (The European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs) has been promoted and coordinated by the Swedish Council for Information on Alcohol and other Drugs (CAN) in collaboration with the Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe. The purpose of the present project is to produce a standard survey instrument, which allows to compare the alcohol and drug use in student populations in terms of standardised definitions and prevalence intervals. This study has been simultaneously performed in 30 European countries since 1995. Italy participated in the 1995 and 1999 surveys both funded and coordinated by the Institute of Clinical Physiology (IFC)-National Research Council (CNR). The ESPAD 2000 survey was carried out thanks to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers -Department of Social Affairs - and the Ministry of Education as well as the technical support of the IFC-CNR. But also the Department of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, numerous regions, public therapeutic services, headmasters and schoolteachers have been involved in this project. Differently from the European survey that concerns only 16-year-old young people, the target population of the Italian survey is students between 15-19 years. The 2000 Italian study was conducted according to the same modalities used in the earlier studies involving a sample of approximately 250 schools that included scien-tific and classic lyceums, artistic institutes and all types of vocational institutes. Regional data collection and estimation will be the next goal. L\u27obiettivo di questo lavoro ? stato quello di ricavare uno strumento di indagine standardizzato, che metta a confronto l\u27uso di droga e di alcool nella popolazione studentesca, in termini di definizioni uniformi e di intervalli di prevalenza. Dal 1995 lo studio viene contemporaneamente condotto in circa 30 Paesi europei. L\u27Italia ha partecipato sia nel 1995 sia nel 1999 con finanziamento e coordinamento del CNR (Istituto di Fisiologia Clinica). La Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri-Dipartimento degli Affari Sociali, in accordo col Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione e con il supporto tecnico operativo del CREAS-IFC del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche ha permesso la realizzazione dello studio ESPAD per l\u27anno 2000. Ci? ? stato possibile, anche grazie al Dipartimento di Prevenzione del Ministero della Sanit?, di molte Regioni, dei SerT e dei Presidi e Professori delle scuole campionate. La rilevazione italiana, diversamente da quella europea che riguarda solo i sedicenni, comprende la popolazione scolastica tra 15-19 anni. Per il 2000 lo studio italiano, ? stato condotto con le stesse modalit? degli anni precedenti e ha coinvolto un campione di circa 250 Scuole tra Licei Classici, Scientifici, Magistrali, Istituti Tecnici, Istituti Professionali ed Artistici. Nei prossimi anni si auspica nel nostro paese una rilevazione ed una stima a carattere regionale.
