Palladio and Piranesi on the subject of ruins

[EN] “Both Palladio and Piranesi take up the Roman heritage of ruins in order to extract teachings that affect architectural discipline itself; a discipline that is revealed as quite autonomous and independent of others, such as history or archaeology directed at the same study object.” Starting with these considerations and a sharp analysis of the different viewpoint of these architects in drawing the same architecture of Roman ruins, the author draws conclusions about the professional interests of architects when they analyse monumental architecture and the need to recover a critical judgement of current interventions of architectural discipline.[ES] “Tanto Palladio como Piranesi se enfrentan con la herencia romana de las ruinas para extraer enseñanzas que afectan a la propia disciplina arquitectónica.
