Premio Andrés Lara para jóvenes investigadores 2011.[EN] Focused ultrasound (FUS) techniques for BloodBrain Barrier opening are emerging for localized and safe brain drug delivery. The aim of this work is to study how the nonlinear effects of the acoustic wave through the transcranial propagation affect to the focused beam properties. In order to do that, a nonlinear acoustics computational method based on FDTD (fi nite differences in time domain) has been developed in a cylindrical axisymmetric coordinate system. The boundary conditions are derived from a CT (X-ray computed tomography) mapping over a Rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta).
