DELLA proteins are transcriptional regulators whose degradation is induced by gibberellins (GAs), plant hormones that participate in the modulation of numerous processes of development and defense against stress. DELLA proteins are not able to bind themselves to DNA and act through the interaction with dozens of transcription factors, modulating their activity, constituting central nodes for the integration of different signaling pathways. The implication of DELLA proteins in so many processes (i) makes it difficult to study each of their functions without affecting others and (ii) reduces the possibilities of their use as a biotechnological tool.
