Several findings suggest that catecholaminergic neurons in the caudal ventrolateral medulla (CVLM) contribute to body fluid homeostasis and cardiovascular regulation. From the CVLM other areas in central nervous system involved in cardiovascular regulation and hydroelectrolyte balance can be activated.
