[EN] Martín Gil Viaduct over the river Esla, (Zamora, Spain), is one of the masterpieces of spanish civil engineering, as it was the longest arch bridge span – 210 m flying over the Ricobayo reservoir- at the time of its construction. The construction process, developed by Eduardo Torroja, allows for the concreting of the cross section in several stages upon a rigid steel truss, and provides the structure with an impressively innovative personality. Still today, the viaduct remains in use in the Zamora – A Coruña railway line without any significant problems.
