La tecnología del dorado y su ornamentación

This work has been done in order to understand how the gilding works in its techniques used in the altarpieces from the valencian International Gothic and the importance of its ornamentation, facing its future preservation. Pretending this, the phases of the gilding in the XIV and XV centuries have been established, and so the context in which this kind of masterpieces have been developed, the influences that valencian artists have had when decorating the gold, and the most common difficulties that gilding may have, because--even being gold the most stable metal--there are more factors involved that may damage the gold and the function of gilding just as the artists meant it to stay. For this reason, after exposing the importance of gilding and its ornamentation in this era, knowing the technical information for its manufacturing (needed in order to study the preservation or procedure of this kind of works in the future) we make an explanation of the most common damages that gilding of this era may suffer and focus on the ornamentation of gilding with a board of technical verification.Este trabajo se ha realizado con la intención de comprender como funciona técnicamente el dorado en los retablos del Gótico Internacional valenciano y la importancia de su ornamentación, de cara a su futura conservación. Para ello se han establecido las fases de trabajo del dorado en los siglos XIV y XV en Valencia, el contexto en el que se desarrollan este tipo de obras de arte, las influencias que reciben los artistas valencianos a la hora de ornamentar el oro, así como los problemas más comunes que el dorado pueda tener, pues aun siendo el oro el metal más estable, en la retablería hay más factores asociados que pueden dañar al oro y la función del dorado tal y como los artistas habían dispuesto que permaneciese. Por ese motivo tras exponer la importancia del dorado y su ornamentación en esta época, de conocer la información técnica de su elaboración, necesaria para poder abordar la conservación o la intervención de este tipo de obras en el futuro y de exponer los daños más comunes que el dorado de esta época puede presentar, y hace hincapié en la ornamentación del dorado con una probeta de verificación técnica.Javaloyes Sáez, MM.
