[[abstract]]The selection and acquisition of library materials have always been one of daily tasks of academic librarians. Since 1980s faculty have increasingly been getting involved in the process of book selection. The purpose of this study is to review the roles of faculty and academic librarians in the development of academic library collections. Conflict and collaboration both exist between faculty and librarians. “The Standard of Libraries in Higher Education” issued in 2004 by the U. S. Association of College and Research Libraries about the faculty’s participation in book selection was also presented.
