Os osteoblastos sao altamente acoplados por juncoes gap formadas pela conexina 43 (Cx43). Disturbios da expressao ou funcao da Cx43 in vitro alteram a expressao genica nos osteoblastos, enquanto a defiCiência genetica da Cx43 in vivo causa letalidade perinatal, defeitos do desenvolvimento do esqueleto craniofacial e disfuncao autonoma do osteoblasto.
