Introduction: The six minute walking test (6MWT) is a submaximal exercise test that has been accepted as an indicator of functional status and has been a good predictor of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC) and mortality in thoracic surgery; however, its role to predict PPC in upper abdominal surgery (UAS) remains unknow. Objective: To test the hypothesis that the 6MWT performance can predict PPC in patients submitted to elective UAS.
