Behavioural sensitization has been extensively used as an animal model of drug-dependence in humans. It consists in a progressive enhancement of some drug behavioural effects after repeated administration. In the present study, we demonstrated that a single morphine injection can induce behavioural sensitization evaluated in mice’s open-field behaviour. This phenomenon, however, was critically dependent on the environmental context in which morphine effects were experienced, as well as on the novelty component of such an environment. In addition, both behavioural parameters indicative of morphine rewarding effects and behavioural parameters indicative of morphine aversive effects were sensitized. Finally, the phenomenon of behavioural sensi...
