This chapter draws on critical management studies and labor process theory to argue that the discourse of meaningfulness in the context of neoliberal capitalism may represent a means for organisations to control and manipulate individual identities. However, she extends this critical perspective by proposing a 'politics of meaningful work' that demonstrates how individuals move between abject alienation and the proud identity associated with meaningful work, based on the thinking of Butler and Foucault
