The analyses of digital infrared satellite data permit an identification of convective activity over the globe. In this paper the daily, seasonal and interannual convective activity variability over South America is analysed using the digital data of satellite images. The data are obtained from Meteosat and Goes of 1993 and 1994. The seasonal variation is very well detected , coherent with lhe observed precipitation. Daily charts show activity related to synoptic systems which atfect South America. Five areas of Brazil are analysed with lhe daily data: north, northeast, south, southeast and central west.
