The social representations of mental illnesses in women from Ayacucho, Peru

El objetivo del presente estudio fue explorar las representaciones sociales de las enfermedades mentales en mujeres de Ayacucho, Perú. Para ello, se realizó una investigación cualitativa que utilizó 5 entrevistas semiestructuradas, las cuales permitieron recoger información sobre las enfermedades mentales pertenecientes a las mujeres de Ayacucho, Perú. El presente estudio explora cuatro áreas de las representaciones de Enfermedades Mentales: (a) representación de una persona que sufre de enfermedad mental, (b) representación de las fuentes de las enfermedades mentales, (c) representación de las situaciones que predisponen a tener una enfermedad mental y, (d) representación de las fantasías de curación frente a las enfermedades mentales. Los resultados de las representaciones sociales fueron discutidos en base a su entorno ideológico, de única cosmovisión y contexto social; así como, a partir de una comparación con estudios realizados en las diversas comunidades andinas.The objective of this study was to explore the social representations of mental illnesses in women from Ayacucho, Peru. For this, a qualitative research was carried out that used 5 semi-structured interviews, which allowed to collect information on mental illnesses belonging to women from Ayacucho, Peru. This study explores four areas of representations of Mental Illnesses: (a) representation of a person suffering from mental illness, (b) representation of the sources of mental illness, (c) representation of situations that predispose to having a mental illness and, (d) representation of healing fantasies in the face of mental illnesses. The results of the social representations were discussed based on their ideological environment, unique worldview and social context; as well as, from a comparison with studies carried out in the various Andean communities.Tesi
