Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) uses NAD+ as a substrate to modify various nuclear proteins with the biopolymer poly(ADP-ribose), thereby regulating a variety of cellular processes such as DNA repair, gene transcription, and cell death.
