Tendon repair frequently requires surgical intervention for the application of tissue grafts, but clinical outcomes are still unsatisfactory. Alternatively, tendon tissue engineering strategies aim at (1) developing fibrous biomaterials to support cell alignment and adequate function and (2) inducing tenogenic differentiation of non-tendon stem cells through physical and/or biochemical cues.
