Analysis of the mass concentration and elemental composition of the fine\ud particulate matter (PM2.5) in Cachoeira Paulista, São Paulo: from\ud September 2010 to September 2011

The goal ofthis study is analyze the effect ofthe meteorological parameters on the\ud variability ofthe mass concentration and elemental composition ofPM2.5 (fine particulate\ud matter) in Cachoeira Paulista, city located in Paraíba Valley, in São Paulo state. The Paraíba\ud Valley is surrounded by four federal highways and is between the two major Brazilian\ud economic poles: São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. As a consequence, it presents high traffic of\ud heavy vehicles, which use as main fuel the diesel oil. Polycarbonate filters with 37 mm of\ud diameter were used to sampling of 24 hours in Harvard Impactor (Harvard School of Public\ud Health), from September 9th 2010 to September ih 2011, in CPETEC (latitude: 22.68°S,\ud longitude: 45,01°W). The measurement ofmass concentration was taken by weighing the\ud polycarbonate filter on electronic microbalance with 1 ug readability (43D model of Diffusion\ud Systems Ltd.). On the step ofweighting, the filters were maintained in an environment with\ud temperature and relativity humidity controlled (22±2°C e 45±3%). The analyses ofthe\ud elemental composition were taken by fluorescence ofrays-X technique in equipment\ud Shimadzu, EDX 700HS model. The total of 299 samples were obtained that presented annual\ud 19.8±27,8 ug.m" average mass concentration, overtaking the stipulated value ofWorld Health\ud Organization (WHO) of 10 ug.m". The overtaking ofthe WHO's daily standard (25 ug.m")\ud happened in 50 days during the analyzed period. The elements which present the higher\ud concentration were AI (187 ng.m"), Si (332 ng.m"), S (462 ng.m"), K (163 ng.m") and Fe\ud (137 ng.m"). Differently of sulfur, it was observed significantseasonality to K, with higher\ud concentrations in dry periods and burning events.Título: V SIC: Interação oceano-atmosfera: impactos climáticos no presente e cenários futuros.
