Compounds of composition Ti(CH3SO3)nCl4-n (n=1-4) have been prepared by the action of appropriate amounts of methanesulphonic acid on titanium(IV) chloride with subsequent evolution of hydrogen chloride. They are soluble and form addition compounds with organic bases such as pyridine and butylamine where the apparent coordination number of titanium(IV) is six. Analytical and conductometric investigations of the methanesulphonates and their adducts with bases support the above formulation. Molecular weights of methanesulphonates and their adducts could not be determined as they are insoluble in the conventional organic solvents
