The dielectric loss behaviour of solution grown thin films of pure and iodine-doped polyvinylchloride (PVC) has been studied as a function of temperature in the frequency range from 40 kHz to 5 MHz. The loss behaviour exhibits three loss peaks, occurring at -70°, -10° and +70 °C respectively. The low temperature loss behaviour is interpreted in terms of small-scale movements of the segments or side groups of the main PVC chains in the amorphous and crystalline areas of the film. The high temperature loss behaviour is attributed to translation and orientation of the main PVC chains. Doping with iodine is found to affect the magnitudes but not the positions of the loss peaks. The effect of iodine is explained in terms of the formation of char...
