This short essay is in response to Sława Harasymowicz’s dismal sheet of dust (2019), an artwork based on the artist’s visit to her childhood home in Kraków. The essay reflects on the sedimentation of histories in the crannies of our personal memories and on the resonances that the traces of the past have on the artist’s own experience
