•3 7* Future Protections of University Growth, Basic Assumpti0ns. By 2000' the student body'may be 2500 to 3000 (degree students). Research and Special Program aspects are expected to have a similar increase . These projections are based on the evaluation team of Fall 1971 (vDrs.» Byrd,, Harrington, et al. ) recommendations for a modest increase of 3$ per year. The Library's present holdings comprise 80,000 vola.. Projection for year 2000 is 350,000 vols. 8. Misc. comments and answers to questions: - All books will go into the Main library. The concept of branch libraries was vigorously opposed by the evaluation team. Instead, suggestion; was to design into the building appropriate facilities for the various disciplines. ■ \ 1 - - The new library will be used by DPS students (<a0 ftfr ). The suggestion by Byrd that the Library be open to the general .public was.opposed by A.I.D* on the grounds that this would require increasing the plan 'which means a larger facility and increased funding. In early stages, however there would be space to accomodate persons from outside AUC. - The purpose of the present meeting is commun'cation by the Ad Hoc Committee to the Library Committee, considered as constituting representatives of the faculty. - The joint committee will be informed when more information is available about the site, and when the architect comes to Cairo.
