Membership, Organization & Functions of the Academic Board Note: The Functions of the old University Council (Section IV-old By-Laws) have been incorporated into the newly structured Academic Board. A. Membership 2_ additional Faculty members have been added. All Faculty should be equally distributed by rank (17-28). 4 student members have been added. B. Organization An Executive Committee of the Board has been established in order to set Board agenda, act for the Board in "extraordinary circumstances", and to act as a quorum for juding the claim by Faculty members that their re-appointment, promotion, and tenure decisions were rendered unfairly by APT Committee. The rules governing these procedures are stringent and explicitly clarified. C. Functions The Faculty Body may review and overule a decision by the Board but the rules governing this (# 4) are extremely stringent. Section III. Standing Committees Reporting to the Board (See minority report # 7 for this section) Generally, this section was re-written for clarity and in a way to give the Faculty major control over its Academic Committees. Also, we tried to democratige the committee structure, itfithout rendering them less functional (e.g., having chairman elected from within the ranks of committees for the wast part, etc.). C
