-3- Step 2. When land has been transferred to the University, a planning fund of $1,000,000 would be necessary for architectural­engineering studies and preliminary design of the new physical plant. Step 3. The AUC must achieve financial stability and independence to carry through the planning and construction stages. An addi­tion of $10,000,000 to the endowment fund, when added to present and increased sources of funding, would provide this stability and independence. Step 4. AUC presently has 300,465 sq. ft. of space for all purposes (sixty-six percent of this is assignable). Pacili ties on a new campus should not contain less than double the present amount of space, i. e., 600,930 sq. ft. Current construction costs in Cairo escalate daily and are meaningless at this state. It is estimated that site preparation, water and power lines, sewers, playing fields, buildings, landscaping, etc. would cost in the neighborhood of thirty to forty million Egyptian pounds. A tentative time table for the new campus would include: a. Acquisition of the la~d and establishment of the $1,000,000 planning fund. b. Planning studies undertaken over an 8-12 month period. c. Upon completion of acceptable studies, establishment of a $10,000;000 endowment fund. d. Five year phase construction of core facilities on new campus
