judgment or faith of an older generation that should make the critical decisions of the present period of world transition. It is the new _enervation that must have its own vision and motivation and be allowed to formul.).te its own aims and objectives and also its own motivations and methods for reaching these objectives. The first period of launching the enterprise had its difficulties; the second may he attended with even greater difficulties. The divine resources of the first per-iod went far beyond our faith and courage; those of the next period may be even more surprising. The purpose of this statement is merely to urge that decisions and future leadership be not separated from each other. (d) Though it may appear to lie outside my province to make the observation which follows, I do so out of my former acruaintance with the Philadelphia office and its work. It is my conviction that in view not on4y of the present increased bur-dens of administration but also in view of the need for yet more extended duties and work that are connected with the next phase of the University's development, careful consideration should be given to securing for Mr. Lum an assistant or asso-ciate who can share in carrying present and impending responsibilities of the ?'hil-adelphis office.
