(5) A problem of evident seriousness is that of selling land in time and previous to the need for it according to the plan laid out. The Committee on Buildings and Grounds would urge upon the Trustees the ne-cessity for sending to Egypt one or more Trustees to check on this whole plan. If this can be done and these Trustees should endorse the scheme as a whole, then the final stamp of approval will have been placed upon this important forward step. The Secretary has attempted by correspondence to discover the weak spots in the plan. Some of the replies to his questionings may prove illuminating to the Board: 1. It must be recognized that the original plan of the Trustees was to have a suburban location for the College. It was only as a concession and compromise that we came into the city. It was not our ideal. It has never measured up to our ideal. It has always been given as the reason for our failure to inf-luence the lives of our students as much as we wished, that our city location made us a city day school and not a residential college. With ideals of a residential college at least approximating Princeton or Wooster or Oberlin, we have always consoled ourselves with the thought, "We are only in the city temporarily".
